Alumni Association

Chicano Alumni is the oldest of nine active chapters of the Fresno State Alumni Association. Membership is open to alumni, past students, and amigos of the university.

We invite you to join the Chicano Alumni family as a member, sponsor, and amigo. Together we will build the legacy to those who follow.

The Chicano Alumni Philosophy
• Serve as the vehicle for continued service and access to the university for Fresno State Chicano Alumni and amigos.
• Advocate for inclusion and recognition of Chicano Alumni within the university structure
• Structure activities that bring Chicano Alumni and amigos to the university
• Include currently enrolled students in alumni activities that are positive in nature
• Serve as role models and promote community service

Objectives
The CA will continue to build on the strength of its members to create, expand, and promote opportunities for Chicano alumni and friends of Fresno State.

The CA three year organizational plan guides organization members in achieving goals that improve the CA chapter by working towards the following:

* enhancing membership to the goal of 500 members
* establishing committee structure that will strengthen CA internal operations
* reframing our governing documents to reflect current CA activities and interests

The CA will continue its commitment to networking opportunities, serving as a community resource, and addressing critical social and educational issues which impact Fresno State Chicano alumni.

Olgin Family Scholarship
The Olgin Family Scholarship provides a stipend for Fresno State students in support of their academic dream of graduation from the finest university in central California. Named after community leaders, Manuel M. and Erminia Olgin, the scholarship is viewed as an example of what Chicano alumni can set up in the name of their family or community.

The Cesar E. Chavez and Dolores Huerta Scholarship Fund
The Cesar E. Chavez and Dolores Huerta Scholarship Fund is dedicated to the legacy of two of our leaders that had a profound impact on the Chicano Movement. The scholarship is open to any currently enrolled Fresno State student and will be awarded on the basis of academic potential and achievement, service to community, and commitment to social justice and equity.

Chicano Alumni Newsletter
This periodic piece reaches thousands of alumni and amigos both electronically and in hard copy. The content primarily includes event updates, featured alumni, organization news and recognition of Chicano alumni sponsors.

Recent Graduate Committee
The Recent Graduate committee activities are designed to involve currently enrolled students as well as recent graduates in an atmosphere that creates good memories of Fresno State while signifying the importance of maintaining ties with the university. The center piece of the committee will be to participate in the Chicano Alumni Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Alumni House
The two-story, 10,000-square-foot SMITTCAMP ALUMNI HOUSE stands near the main entrance to Fresno State, welcoming alumni, students, friends, conference-goers, dignitaries and other visitors to campus. The 2.2 million building includes graciously appointed meeting and conference rooms, reception and social areas, an alumni library and chapter/volunteer resource room, courtyards and offices for the staff of the Fresno State Alumni Association.

The impetus for the Alumni House was a $1 million gift in 1997 from Muriel and Earl Smittcamp and their family. Muriel and Earl, 1940 and 1939 graduates of Fresno State, and their children, Bob, Carol, Betsy and Bill, all of whom are Fresno State alumni, have been dedicated supporters of the university for many years.

The Alumni House has several areas dedicated to conference and meeting space. The Board of Directors and the Whitten Conference rooms have been designed for moderate-sized meetings. With the removal of the partition, each room can be expanded, creating space for larger gatherings. For smaller groups, the Thorburn Faculty Lounge and the McMurtry Conference Room offer intimate seating.

Chicano Alumni Website
The Chicano Alumni website is an outstanding communication vehicle for the organization. Available 24/7, it features a full menu of Chicano Alumni events, history, committee opportunities, and recognition of sponsors, donors, and alumni. Tastefully designed with the alumni member in mind, the website is linked to the Fresno State Alumni Association and the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce websites and literally viewed by thousands of Bulldog Amigos per day!
