Scholarship

Chicano Alumni
Cesar E. Chavez and Dolores Huerta
Scholarship Fund

Established January 2003

Purpose
The purpose of The Cesar E. Chavez and Dolores Huerta Scholarship Fund is three fold. First, the scholarship fund was established to acknowledge the legacy of Cesar and Dolores who had a profound impact on the farm worker and Chicano Movement. It was through their struggle and efforts that justice for the farm workers continues to be realized to this very day. And it was through the activism of the farm worker struggle and the Chicano Movement that the halls and programs of academe were opened to our community.

Second, the scholarship fund was established to assist in the development of our future local, state, national, and global leaders. Academics, community service, and mentoring will be the cornerstones to a successful educational experience.

And finally, the scholarship fund was established to be responsive to the continuing financial needs of our students pursing higher education. It is readily recognized that the cost of higher education continues to escalate, and the availability of financial assistance does not keep pace with the needs of our students.
